Leather fire buckets were once commonly used throughout Europe and North America to fight fires. They are lighter than wooden buckets for passing in bucket brigades. In general, buckets were lined with pitch or painted to waterproof the leather. There is a wooden hoop around the top for rigidity. This bucket is a hand stitched reproduction of a 19th century fire bucket owned by a Mr. Jessup from Prescott, Ontario. The original artifact in is the collection of Parks Canada in Cornwall, Ontario. 11
